Local TD and Minister for Older people and Health Promotion, Aine Brady TD, has been informed by her colleague Mr. John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, that he has provided €221,000 in supplementary funding to assist Kildare Co Co in meeting the exceptional costs associated with the emergency in dealing with the recent flooding crisis.
"In what was a difficult time for many households around Sallins and other parts of North Kildare, the local authority did provide a professional and rapid response to the difficulties. This funding is to contribute to meeting current costs incurred by local authorities such as emergency staff, emergency materials and equipment, additional operational costs associated with water services, and immediate costs arising in relation to social housing - including clean-up and temporary accommodation, where appropriate.' stated Minister Brady who stated that the funding was made to affected local authorities in the week before Christmas.
‘Kildare County Council is currently investigating the causes of the Flooding at the Waterways Estate in Sallins. This will involve consultation with other agencies, including Irish Rail, Waterways Ireland and the management company, which is currently responsible for the housing estate in question. When the Council has completed its report on the flooding, the OPW will provide the technical advice on appropriate measures to be adopted to alleviate future flood risk in the area.'
