Deputy Aine Brady has been informed by Iarnrod Eireann that it will make
a submission to Kildare County Council to consider locations for Park and Ride
Facilities at Maynooth, Leixlip and a new Town planned at Collinstown.
'I made representations to Iarnrod Eireann
a few months to input their proposals on the location of Park and Rides in the
North Kildare area generally.'
'There needs to be much more co-operation and interaction between the
planning authorities to optimise the services that are provided. Passenger
numbers on the Maynooth Line have doubled in the last five years, fuelled by the
increased frequency of trains servicing the line.' stated Deputy Brady.
'However at Confey and Maynooth in
particular, previous Local Area Plans did not adequately take account of the
increased requirement for Park and Ride Facilities. I am delighted now, and
following my representations, Park and Ride Facilities will get a greater focus
in the upcoming local area plans for the towns of North Kildare.'
'Kilcock will have increased parking
next year and Hazel Hatch already has an increased capacity of 400 car
spaces.'
'As convenor of the
Oireachtas Transport Committee, I am committed to ensuring that Public Transport
is kept centre stage from a Public Transport Policy perspective. Recently at the
Transport Committee, I suggested that each local authority should appoint a
pubic transport liaison officer, from within their own Transport Department, to
bring attention to the many areas of Public Transport that needs to be
addressed, such as Park and Ride locations, Adequate Bus Stops and Shelters, Bus
Lane Provision and Turning Circle for Buses.' concluded Deputy Brady.
