November 2008 – Naas & District Community Alert to receive €4,200

Deputy Aine Brady has been informed by John Curran, T.D., Minister of State  (with special responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs) at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Naas and District Community Alert is to receive funding of  €4,200 under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People.

'This is the twelfth tranche of funding under the Scheme and brings the amount of funding approved to date in 2008 to over €3 million nationally.' stated Deputy Brady.

'This grant scheme aims to improve the security of older members of the community and funding is available towards the costs of installing socially monitored alarm systems, security lighting, window locks, door locks, door chains and smoke alarms. Interior emergency lighting is also available to qualifying older people living on our offshore islands.'

"These grants enable a wide range of local groups to engage in locally based initiatives to give older people the security they need to live independently in their own communities. I again wish to express my gratitude to these community and voluntary groups as their continuing efforts in this area are essential to the operation and success of this Scheme." concluded Deputy Brady.
