September 2008 – Investment in Rail Network essential says Brady


Deputy Aine Brady, Convenor of the Joint Oireachtas Committee, has stated that continued Investment in our Rail Infrastructure is critical to secure continued investment in Kildare and also to ease the burden for our commuters.

'We are entering more challenging times from an economic perspective and there will not be the  resources in the short term for all our demands. However, Investment in Rail will bring economic benefits to the area.'

'The Chief Executive of Iarnrod Eireann has confirmed to me that the Electrification of the Maynooth Line is a central core element  to Transport 21 Capital Investment programme upto 2015. When complete the Maynooth Line  will operate as part of the DART network. and will increase both the capacity and frequency of the service on the Line.'

'I have been assured that the Service for Kilcock Commuters will improve in 2009. In addition, an additional 250 car places will be provided and I have made representations to Kildare Co Co to have the planning issue resolved as soon as possible so that the works can start as soon as possible.' concluded Deputy Brady.
