Deputy Aine Brady welcomed
the works and proposed works carried out by Kildare Co Co to minimise the risk
of flooding in some estates in Celbridge.
'Kildare Co Co have informed me that the Engineering Staff in Celbridge
have carried out further cleaning of the Toni River channel in the area of
Vanessa Lawns, Vanessa Close and St Patrick's Park. This work was done to
increase the capacity of the channel and to prepare for the installation of new
steel cages to be placed where the Toni enters and exits the local culvert.'
stated Deputy Brady who raised the issue with Kildare Co Co following the recent
flooding.
'The steel cages have been
designed and ordered and are scheduled for delivery and installation in
approximately two weeks. This work should reduce the risk of the culvert being
blocked by debris gathering at entrance and exit points, which most residents
believe was a contributing factor in the recent flooding.' stated Deputy
Brady.
'The consultants, Kilgallen and
Partners, are continuing to work on a report on the general catchment area. It
is very important that we look at all options to further minimise the risk of
any future flooding in the area.' concluded Deputy Brady.
