August 2008 – Kildare Groups urged to make submissions on Garda Policing Plans

Deputy Aine Brady has urged Kildare groups to make submissions to An Garda Siochana as its prepares its 2009 Policing Plans.

'An Garda Síochána has commenced preparing its 2009 Policing Plan.  The Garda Commissioner has invited members of the business community, voluntary/ statutory organisations and the general public to make submissions for consideration in developing the plan.'

'Earlier in June of this year,   the Garda Commissioner announced that Kildare would be treated as one division. The realignment of the divisional boundary is part of an ambitious programme to ensure that An Garda Siochana are delivering an efficient and professional policing service which meets the needs of the community. The purpose of that project was to bring the Garda division into line with local authority boundaries so that they can work more effectively with joint policing committees.' stated Deputy Brady who stated that Kildare had been broken down into three area.

'Given the change in population base in Kildare and the fact that Leixlip will not be part of the Dublin Metropolitan Area and Kilcock will not be part of the Meath Metropolitan Area, it is an ideal opportunity for us to raise our concerns and highlight the emerging requirements in Kildare.'

'Submissions/observations in relation to the Policing Plan 2009 should be submitted in writing, or by email, to Deputy Commissioner, Strategy & Change Management, Policing Plan 2009, Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8 or email: policingplan@garda.ie . The closing date for submissions is 12th September 2008.' concluded Deputy Brady.

The current Policing Plan is available on the Garda website at www.garda.ie
