August 2008 – Further progress on the Kildare Train Route Project

The new Park West and Cherry Orchard Train Station will be opened this week by the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey TD, bringing further progress to the level of service along the Kildare Route and another significant milestone in the Kildare Route Project stated Deputy Brady convenor of the Transport Oireachtas Committee.

'The Kildare Route Project, when fully completed in 2010, will double the service frequency between Hazelhatch and Dublin and also between Sallins and Dublin. This increase service will be achieved through increasing the number of tracks from two to four along the route from cherry Orchard to West of Hazelhatch. This will provide two dedicated lines for commuter services and two dedicated lines for Intercity and Regional Services.'

'This will increase passenger numbers from 11,050 per day each way to 36,400 per day each way.'

'I have been informed by the Minister for Transport this week that the target date for completion of Kildare Route Project is 2010. Already Celbridge Commuters using the facility at Hazelhatch can see the benefits of the increased car parking capacity. The station when completed will be significantly upgraded, including full accessibility, toilet facilities, sheltered seating and ticket vending machines.'

'I am as determined as ever to ensure that we continue to make progress on improving our public transport. We need to improve our Bus Service and our Feeder Bus Services to the Rail Stations.' concluded Deputy Brady.
