July 2008 – Funding boost for Kildare voluntary groups supporting local older people - Brady

Two Kildare voluntary groups are to receive Government funding to assist in their work supporting older people.

"Celbridge Community Council will receive €3,082.92 and Naas and District Community Alert will get €7,200 under the Community Support for Older People Scheme."

"The Scheme supports organisations who work to assist older people to increase the security of their homes."

"Funding is available through these organisations for the provision of socially monitored alarms, door and window locks, security lighting and smoke alarms."

"It often helps to make the difference between an older person remaining in their home and community or feeling they have to leave for residential or other accommodation."

"I would like to congratulate the staff and volunteers of Celbridge Community Council and Naas and District Community Alert for their dedication and hard work and to appeal to other organisations that might quality for the funding to apply as grants are issued throughout the year on the basis of need," concluded Deputy Brady.
