Deputy Aine Brady has been informed by Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) that a contract has been placed for the construction of the new Decentralised Headquarters for the Department of Defence in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.
'In recent months, many people have contacted me wondering when this decentralisation was going to take place. The OPW has now placed a contract with P. Elliott & Co. Ltd. for the design and construction of the building in Newbridge. The contract is in the sum of €22m and will involve the construction of a new three storey headquarters of around 7,500 square metres in area and house approximately 260 staff..'
'I am hopeful that this will bring benefits to the staff that will work in Newbridge and reduce their time commuting. I am a firm believer than towns like Naas, Newbridge, Maynooth and Celbridge are ideal locations to decentralise. In recent years, we have seen sections of the Department of Agriculture move to Maynooth and the Office of Tobacco Control set up in Naas. Many other commercial enterprises have moved to Business Parks in Naas and Maynooth and they see substantial benefits from the perspective of reducing commuting times for the employees." concluded Deputy Brady.
