Deputy Aine Brady has been informed by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews TD, that his Department has launched the New Childminders Development Grant, allowing for a Childminder to invest in Equipment, Toys or minor household adaptions to assist in childminding.
'The new Childminders Development Grant scheme contains a number of significant improvements, including a
major increase in the maximum grant from €630 to €1,000 for Childminders, the Grant is also available to Childminders who have already been grant aided under the EOCP (Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme) scheme.'
'They will be able to re-apply under the NCIP scheme after 2 years or a shorter period, if their first application is for less than the maximum amount. This will ensure that quality improvements emanating from the Scheme will be on-going'. stated Deputy Brady.
'Earlier this year, I announced funding for a number of Child-care Facilities in North Kildare. We must continue to invest in Childcare facilities.'
'For many families, childminding is the primary source of childcare provision for their children and this is mainly due to the home-from-home environment that it offers. The Government recognises the valuable contribution of childminders and has established a variety of supports for the childminding sector.'
'Full Details of the Childminding Grant can be obtained from the Kildare County Childcare Committee in Kildare.' concluded Deputy Brady.
