July 2008 – Good news for Celbridge commuters as Dublin Bus increases service - Brady

The Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey TD has informed local Fianna Fail T.D. and Convenor of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Áine Brady, that its Department has granted a licence to Dublin Bus to increase their service in Celbridge to compensate for Circle Line's withdrawal from the route.

"This news from the Transport Department will be a great relief to commuters who were reliant on the Circle Line service and were left high and dry as a result of the withdrawal of services."

"As soon as I heard of Circle Line's intention to withdraw their service I contacted Dublin Bus and the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey to impress upon them the importance and urgency of providing an alternative for north Kildare commuters who relied on the service. I called on Dublin Bus to apply for the licence and I am delighted that the Department has responded quickly."

"As a user of public transport myself, I know that commuters will use Public Transport once the service is reliable, regular and value for money. We must to continue to invest in Public Transport, with more buses and Bus Lanes to improve the service levels." stated Deputy Brady who recently also pressed Kildare Co Co, Bus Network Office and the Bus companies to improve the Bus Infrastructure.

"I understand that Dublin Bus have the buses available and there should be no delay in rolling out the new services for Celbridge. I will remain in contact with Dublin Bus on this issue and will be urging them to put the additional service in place as soon as possible." concluded Deputy Brady.
