January 2800 – McGuiness outlines importance of Clane Chamber of Commerce

Minister for Trade and Commerce, John McGuinness TD addressed the recently inaugurated Clane Chamber of Commerce at their AGM in Clane during the week.

Minister McGuinness pointed out the importance of having a coherent strategy of small businesses, in a community like Clane, in dealing with relevant stakeholders including the Local Authority.

‘It is important that the Chamber engages positively with the local authority on sensitive issues like rate payments, pay parking and resources. Effective two way engagement can bring about benefits to the Local Authority and the Small Business Community. We can no longer just have a negative approach to ‘rates', we must take a co-operative approach and understand where every party is coming from.' stated Minsiter McGuinness who also praised the on-going work of Clane Local Development Limited

‘Clane must derive benefits from the very significant resources at its disposal to assist enterprises in the area to flourish.'

Deputy Aine Brady stated

‘Clane has many resources at its disposal. Clane is home to the Kildare Enterprise Board, KELT and has a very efficient local authority office in the town. Clane Local Development Limited (CLD Ltd) is another key resource for the town, which has facilitated the creation of over 300 jobs since  the enterprise centre opened in the mid 90's.'

'Clane Local Development Ltd, which is a not for profit organisation, re-invests any surplus funds it has back into the Clane Community. Its board is well balanced and it is a community driven organisation we are lucky to have.' stated Deputy Brady who thanked them for their work.

‘In addition, Clane is only a few miles from Naas, which is home to a growing Food Industry Sector. Naas is also a home to many service Industries, including in the Financial Services area.'

‘In Leixlip and Celbridge, again only a few miles from Clane, we have one of the worlds most dynamic technology companies in Intel and HP. All of these companies require additional services, some of which could come from places like Clane.'

‘With the very progressive work that is now on-going in transposing NUI Maynooth into a Reearch and Innovation led University, with innovation and commercialization of research, a key element of the new syllabus, we have the infrastructure locally to sustain and grow more local businesses.' concluded Deputy Brady who commited herself to working with the Chamber and CLD Limited to bring further progress.
